CR&E provides program evaluations and technical assistance for K-12 educators, universities, and community-based programs for youth and adults.

We usually recommend collecting both qualitative and quantitative data for each project.

History Hunters Youth Reporter Program

The History Hunters Youth Reporter Program is a literacy-based educational program that provides an opportunity for fourth and fifth grade public school students in Philadelphia to visit historic houses in the Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia. The program provides tours and hands-on activities at five historic houses, as well as literacy-based preparation and follow-up activities.

CR&E helped the staff at History Hunters to pilot tools that explore the impact of the program on student literacy. Tools used during the pilot were a student survey and student writing samples. Teachers who participated in two focus groups are extremely enthusiastic about the way the program taps into multiple learning styles and provides a meaningful context for non-fiction reading and writing. These teachers are more than willing to assist with assessing program impacts and suggested using student portfolios as an another tool to document student growth.
